I have been a full time trainer now for nearly 20 years. In my teaching I try to help my pupils understand WHY they are doing something not just how to do it. I follow correct classical training principles and do not believe in shortcuts.
Seeing the big picture helps a rider to understand the "process".
With that in mind I don't care what breed of horse the pupil rides, their age or ability are equally irrelevant. What I ask of all my pupils is that they want to learn, as I do. That they will enter into the two way dialogue that is essential for effective teaching and learning.
If we get that right the rosettes will follow! I KNOW how it feels to find something hard to do, when your body won't do what your brain tells it ! As a result, I have become an effective communicator, because I have had to analyse everything I do, so that I understand it , and my pupils benefit from this.
Being a judge, a rider, and a trainer enables me to see the whole picture. I help my pupils to
- understand the training process
- gain an insight into what the judge is looking for
- become more adept at test riding, and gain higher marks
- develop a better relationship with their horse
- become more independent and able to solve problems for themselves
- grow in confidence and conquer their fears and insecurities
I am happy to teach individuals or small groups and have a lot of experience of running Clinics for riding clubs or for a livery yard.
